AI tool — Naming notes

What makes a good ai tool name

An AI tool is often a single feature with a landing page: a summariser, an image upscaler, a meeting note-taker. Those products are discovered through directories, Product Hunt and search, where the name has to be short enough to fit a listing card and distinct enough not to be confused with the fifty other summarisers. This page favours short, punchy names (four to seven letters) that still have a free domain on at least one of .ai, .com or .app.

Describe the input and the output of the tool ("long articles in, one-screen brief out"). The generator uses those two anchors to build names that hint at the result without describing it.

Tips that save a rename

  • Directory listings truncate names; keep it short and avoid special spellings that break alphabetical search.
  • If the tool is a Chrome extension, check the Chrome Web Store for the name as well as the domains.
  • A .app domain is a good fit for single-purpose tools and avoids .ai renewal prices.
  • Make sure the name does not read as a feature of a bigger product ("Copilot", "Assistant") that a platform could trademark.
Should an AI tool name mention what it does?

A hint is useful for single-feature tools (a summariser name that evokes brevity), but keep it suggestive so you can add features later without renaming.

Which extension do AI tools use most?

.ai dominates launches, .com remains the default people type, .app is rising for consumer tools. Check all three; we show which are free.

Can I use the name of a model in my tool name?

Avoid it. Model names are trademarks of their labs, and app stores and directories increasingly reject names that include them.

03 — FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Everything you need to know about our domain name generator.

Is NamePulsar free?

Yes. Generating names, scoring them and checking availability is free and needs no account. When you register a domain, you do it directly with the registrar.

How accurate is the availability check?

We query DNS and the official RDAP registry data in real time. “Available” means the registry has no record of the domain. “Likely available” means the domain has no DNS records but that registry doesn't offer RDAP to confirm. Premium or reserved names can still cost more at the registrar, so always confirm at checkout.

What is the Pulse score?

A 1–10 brandability estimate based on length, pronounceability, syllable count and spelling pitfalls (digits, awkward consonant clusters, double letters). It helps you compare names; it says nothing about trademarks, so run a trademark search before you commit.

Which domain extensions are supported?

.com, .io, .ai, .co, .app, .dev, .net, .org, .xyz, .me, .eu, .de and .ro. Choose the ones you care about before you generate, or hit “all extensions” on any card.

Do you store my project description or shortlist?

No. Your description is sent to the AI model to generate names and isn't saved by NamePulsar. Your shortlist lives only in your browser; share links simply carry the names in the URL.

What makes a good brandable domain name?

Short (ideally under 10 characters), easy to spell after hearing it once, easy to pronounce, distinctive enough to trademark, and available as a .com or a strong alternative like .io or .ai.
