Startup name generator
Turn a one-line pitch into brandable startup names, scored for memorability and checked against live registry data before you fall in love with one.
What makes a good startup name
Founders spend weeks on names because the obvious candidates are gone: every dictionary word, every "Get___" and every "___HQ" has been registered by someone who got there in 2012. The way out is a name that did not exist until you made it up, which is exactly what investors and press are used to seeing (Stripe, Notion, Vercel, Deel). The generator mixes invented words, blends and twisted spellings, then checks which ones still have the .com, .io or .co free right now.
Paste your pitch as you would say it to a stranger. The more concrete the problem and the customer, the more distinctive the roots the AI can work with, and the better the Pulse score will separate names you can say on stage from names that only look good in a spreadsheet.
Tips that save a rename
- Do not name the company after a feature; features change, companies pivot.
- Say it out loud to someone and ask them to spell it. One failed spelling is a warning, two is a veto.
- Check Crunchbase and LinkedIn for existing companies with the same name, even in other industries.
- Buy the .com if it is available at normal price; buy the .io or .co if the .com is a five-figure premium.
Should I pick a name before incorporating?
Pick the brand name first and check the domain and trademark, then incorporate. Renaming a company after incorporation costs time and money; renaming before costs nothing.
What if the .com is taken but unused?
Look up the owner via WHOIS/RDAP and make an offer, or choose a .io/.co and plan to buy the .com later. Read our guide on what to do when the .com is taken.
Are invented names harder to market?
Slightly at first, but they are easier to trademark, rank for and own on social media. A made-up word with a clear tagline beats a descriptive name with a hyphenated domain.

Frequently asked questions
Everything you need to know about our domain name generator.
Is NamePulsar free?
Yes. Generating names, scoring them and checking availability is free and needs no account. When you register a domain, you do it directly with the registrar.
How accurate is the availability check?
We query DNS and the official RDAP registry data in real time. “Available” means the registry has no record of the domain. “Likely available” means the domain has no DNS records but that registry doesn't offer RDAP to confirm. Premium or reserved names can still cost more at the registrar, so always confirm at checkout.
What is the Pulse score?
A 1–10 brandability estimate based on length, pronounceability, syllable count and spelling pitfalls (digits, awkward consonant clusters, double letters). It helps you compare names; it says nothing about trademarks, so run a trademark search before you commit.
Which domain extensions are supported?
.com, .io, .ai, .co, .app, .dev, .net, .org, .xyz, .me, .eu, .de and .ro. Choose the ones you care about before you generate, or hit “all extensions” on any card.
Do you store my project description or shortlist?
No. Your description is sent to the AI model to generate names and isn't saved by NamePulsar. Your shortlist lives only in your browser; share links simply carry the names in the URL.
What makes a good brandable domain name?
Short (ideally under 10 characters), easy to spell after hearing it once, easy to pronounce, distinctive enough to trademark, and available as a .com or a strong alternative like .io or .ai.
