What makes a good saas name

SaaS names live or die on one test: can a customer type it into a browser after hearing it once on a sales call? The best software brands (Slack, Notion, Figma, Linear) are two syllables, spelled the way they sound, and own the .com or a credible .io. The generator above is tuned for exactly that: it favours coined words and tight blends over dictionary words, because every plain English word you can think of is already registered or parked at a four-figure price.

Tell it what the product does and who buys it. Mentioning the job to be done ("approve social posts", "reconcile invoices") gives the AI concrete roots to twist into something ownable, and the Pulse score flags names that look fine on paper but are hard to say in a demo.

Tips that save a rename

  • Avoid "-ly", "-ify" and "-hub" suffixes: they signal 2014 and are almost always taken on .com.
  • Say the name in a sentence: "We use ___ for our social calendar." If it needs explaining, drop it.
  • Check .io and .ai next to .com. For developer or AI-adjacent tools a clean .io beats a hyphenated .com.
  • Search the name on G2 and Product Hunt before you commit; a dead competitor with the same name still confuses buyers.
Should a SaaS name describe what the product does?

Not literally. Descriptive names ("Social Scheduler Pro") are hard to trademark and impossible to get as .com. Pick something suggestive or invented and let the tagline explain the product.

Is .io still a good domain for SaaS?

Yes for developer-facing and B2B tools; buyers in that space read .io as a tech product. For consumer-facing software, prefer .com or a strong .app.

How long should a SaaS name be?

Four to eight letters is the sweet spot. Our Pulse score penalises names over ten characters because they are mistyped and truncated in app stores and Slack integrations.

03 — FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Everything you need to know about our domain name generator.

Is NamePulsar free?

Yes. Generating names, scoring them and checking availability is free and needs no account. When you register a domain, you do it directly with the registrar.

How accurate is the availability check?

We query DNS and the official RDAP registry data in real time. “Available” means the registry has no record of the domain. “Likely available” means the domain has no DNS records but that registry doesn't offer RDAP to confirm. Premium or reserved names can still cost more at the registrar, so always confirm at checkout.

What is the Pulse score?

A 1–10 brandability estimate based on length, pronounceability, syllable count and spelling pitfalls (digits, awkward consonant clusters, double letters). It helps you compare names; it says nothing about trademarks, so run a trademark search before you commit.

Which domain extensions are supported?

.com, .io, .ai, .co, .app, .dev, .net, .org, .xyz, .me, .eu, .de and .ro. Choose the ones you care about before you generate, or hit “all extensions” on any card.

Do you store my project description or shortlist?

No. Your description is sent to the AI model to generate names and isn't saved by NamePulsar. Your shortlist lives only in your browser; share links simply carry the names in the URL.

What makes a good brandable domain name?

Short (ideally under 10 characters), easy to spell after hearing it once, easy to pronounce, distinctive enough to trademark, and available as a .com or a strong alternative like .io or .ai.
